10 reasons why teaching English is a great way to spend a year after University

1. Earn some money – Teaching English as a foreign language can be very well paid work. Depending on what country you chose to work in you could even make some great savings.

2. Discover whether teaching suits you – By signing up for teaching abroad for a year (which is the length of the majority of contracts) you get a great taste of what a career in teaching is like without committing too much of your time.

3. Travel to a new country – A great way to travel to a new place, experience a new country, a new culture and all they have to offer.

4. Boost your C.V. – Spending time abroad whilst also gaining work experience will set your C.V. apart from other graduates who have not experienced the working world or other cultures.

5. Make worldwide friends – Meet new people from all around the world and make lifelong friends.

6. Personal Growth – Leaving your home and all your familiar surroundings takes courage! You will be forced to adapt to a new country, a new culture and a new job, you will no doubt learn a lot during this process.

7. Make a difference – When teaching English you will very quickly begin to see the difference you are having on your students’ skill of the English language!

8. Learn a new language – Whilst you are living in a new country you will most likely pick up a basic knowledge of the native language. However if you commit to learning the language you may become a fluent speaker before you know it.

9. Have fun! – Teaching English as a foreign language is a fun job to do! You will get to teach through song, games and other fun methods. Along with having fun at work you will of course have a lot of fun in your personal life through travel and experiencing a new country.

10. Only time you will have this freedom – Finishing University is one of the key points during life when you have to make the decision what you will do with the next stage in your life. It is not very often in life you have the opportunity to be free enough to move your life to another country.
